Mayor Hyram Copeland
Mayor of Vidalia


Mayor Hyram Copeland was born December 30th, 1941, in Ferriday, Louisiana.

He is a graduate of Ferriday High School and Attended Louisiana College and Northeast Louisiana University.

Mayor Copeland was a U.S. Army Reserve from 1965-1971, a total of 6 years.

Mayor Copeland was then employed by Sears and Company for 23 years as Department Manager and was then self-employeed from 1977 through 2000.

Hyram Copeland was nominated and elected onto the Vidalia City Council in 1976 and elected Mayor of Vidalia in 1992.

Mayor Copeland is a Member of the Vidalia Chamber of Commerce, and the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for Louisiana Energy and Power Authority. He is also Past-President, and member of the Board of Directors and the Pricing Committee of the Louisiana Gas Authority, a member of the Board of Directors for the Kisatchie-Delta Regional Planning and Development District, Chairman of the Highway 84 Commission, and Past Chairman, Member of the Board of Directors for Concordia Parish Economic & Industrial Development District.

Mayor Hyram Copeland also served on the Governor's Economic Development Task Force and the Highway Task Force.
